Weekly Briefing: IPCC Praises Carbon Pricing

Average Rating:

March 9, 2022

Last week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the latest section of its Sixth Assessment Report summarizing the latest scientific research on climate change impacts, adaptation, and vulnerabilities. In this report, the IPCC makes several mentions of carbon pricing and the positive impact that it would have on the reduction of greenhouse gases.

70b5576d20a953698ee963badd281392-huge-snCCL’s Research Coordinator Dana Nuccitelli breaks down the IPCC report. “As CCL volunteers are well aware, coupling dividends with carbon pricing is an important measure to ensure that low- and middle-income households do not bear the financial brunt of the policy. On this point, the IPCC report also agrees with CCL.”

The report also acknowledges that many other countries are already implementing a carbon price and that a carbon price can spark innovation for clean, new technologies.

Grassroots: Earth Day virtual film festival

CCL volunteer Elyce Klein of Berkley, California, has been working hard preparing a virtual film festival for Earth Day. The Wild & Scenic Film Festivals are organized by multiple environmental organizations, with CCL presenting, and are to be held from Apr. 22-27 and feature the most popular environmental films of this year.

“The theme of this year's festival is ‘A Current of Hope.’ The flagship festival featured many films about water issues, a few of which we included. However, if you take a look at the films in our on-tour program, a wide variety of issues are addressed in the films,” Elyce says.

Several CCL chapters have already signed up to host their own virtual showing in partnership with the film festival. For more information, see this updated section on the Hosting A Screening Training page! 🎉
