Tornadoes region LTE and op-ed writing party

Dear Tornadoes advocates,

Please join us on Thursday, June 30 at 6pm CDT for our Tornadoes region LTE & op-ed writing party.

This is an opportunity for anyone to turn up on Zoom, write a letter-to-the-editor, and submit it to a local newspaper before the hour is out! We will also invite volunteers to start work on a longer opinion column (op-ed) if they prefer.

We know that the staffers for our members of Congress monitor the local newspapers, so this is an effective way to let them know that climate change is a priority issue for their constituents. If we mention our elected officials by name in published letters, it is likely to end up on their desks!

We will start with a quick six-minute training for anyone who needs it, then discuss timely letter-writing opportunities before muting/turning off cameras for 20 minutes to write. Letters-to-the-editor average about 250 words. Op-eds are usually around 650 words.

After the writing period, participants will return to the group session, and anyone who would like to share can read their letters or ask questions.

Please note, this event includes a short, visual presentation and helpful links to access as you write. Joining the meeting via computer is preferable to maximize the experience and resources.
