Last week, CCL staff and right-of-center volunteers headed to Capitol Hill for our annual Conservative Climate Leadership Conference and Lobby Day. On Saturday, we all gathered on Zoom for CCL’s March meeting to debrief about the event.

Mindy Ahler, CCL’s Congressional Liaison Program Manager, shared that 50 right-of-center volunteers held meetings with 33 Republican offices and dropped off materials at 14 more.

“I think this is one of the most impactful things that we do,” added Drew Eyerly, CCL’s Action Team Director. He has seen firsthand what great conversations our conservative volunteers can have with Republican offices. “They’ll say 10 minutes, and those meetings will turn into 20 to 30 minutes,” he reflected.

What were those conversations about? For this lobby day, we had three main asks for the offices we met with. Our main ask was for them to protect America’s clean energy tax credits.

“There really is a key angle to getting into a lot of these Republican offices, and that’s the economy,” explained Jenn Tyler, CCL’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “As we talk about how competitive American businesses can be in clean energy and how many jobs it can bring to their district, the members are much more open to that discussion.” Then, Jenn says, the conversation will naturally lead to the additional benefit of reducing climate pollution.

Watch the recording of CCL’s March meeting to get the full debrief from our Conservative Leadership Conference and Lobby Day, including videos of the attendees themselves.

In other news this week:

New Republican letter supporting clean energy tax credits: A group of House Republicans, led by House Climate Solutions Caucus co-chair Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY-02), has sent a letter urging the House Ways and Means Committee to keep clean energy tax credits in place. “We have 20-plus members saying, ‘Don’t just think you can repeal these things and have our support,’” Rep. Garbarino told Politico. (That’s a bigger group than the 18 Republicans who sent a similar letter last fall.)

“More and more Republican House members are recognizing that clean energy tax credits are benefiting their districts — and that constituents and businesses don’t want to lose them,” explains Jenn Tyler, CCL’s Vice President of Government Affairs.

The letter, led by House Climate Solutions Caucus co-chair Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY-02), was signed by 20 of his fellow House Republicans: Reps. Amodei, Bacon, Bresnahan, Carter, Ciscomani, Evans, Fong, Houchin, Hurd, James, Joyce, Kean, Kiggans, Kim, LaLota, Lawler, Mackenzie, Miller-Meeks, Newhouse and Valadao. If your representative is on that list, thank them for speaking up!

Take action this week:

1a437c60b579e4fb074166ca1ec91587-huge-maIf you have a little time: Support CCL’s climate work. “In a few short weeks, President Trump has severely damaged the government’s ability to fight climate change,” The New York Times reported last week. His administration is “upending American environmental policy with moves that could have lasting implications for the country, and the planet.” This makes CCL’s climate advocacy work that much more vital. Our lobbying and grassroots organizing are necessary to protect climate laws and secure as many additional wins as possible. Will you support us with a monthly donation?

So far, CCLers have given $5,599 in new or increased monthly donations— thank you! But we still have a long way to go to reach our $10,000 goal for March. And don’t forget: angel donors will match your monthly gift $4-to-$1 for three months, so your support goes even further. If you haven’t already, give today to support our work at this critical time.

If you have more time: Reinforce our lobby day message. Now is a perfect time to reinforce last week’s lobby meetings with a message of your own. Use our action tool at cclusa.org/ira-defense to ask your Republican representative and/or senators to preserve clean energy tax credits. (If you don’t have any Republican members of Congress, then share this Instagram post, this Bluesky post, this X post to amplify Republican support for the tax credits.)
