Marshall was truly a giant - he was gentle, humble, kind and had an infectiously joyful spirit.
Every time that I had the chance to be with Marshall I looked forward to it for all that he brought the world and our organization.
One of my favorite memories that I will always hold onto that I feel exemplifies Marshall’s attitude so well took place on a Core Volunteer Training where he was sharing CCL’s origin story. He would then stay on for volunteer questions for another 15-20 minutes and someone asked him how he knew CCL would work when he started it.
He simply replied, “I didn’t” with a big smile and Marshall chuckle bringing us all with him :) But he went on to say that he strongly believed that an organization that followed the example of other non-violent civil disobedience leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and supported solutions that looked out for people, that together we could more than influence the political process in Congress and our larger country.
Marshall’s legacy will be all of us continuing to hold his torch burning so brightly to ensure that happens.
Sending Pam and the whole Saunders family infinite gratitude for Marshall’s beautiful leadership and loving spirit provided to the thousands and thousands of lives he has enriched forever more!
Chris and I send condolences to wonderful Pamela, his children, his extended family and his CCL staff, especially Mark who stepped into Marshall's vision and with Marshall’s abiding support has led us to this hopeful place at a time where hope is a rare element. We will miss you, dear Marshall and carry on.
Barbara Wilson:
To even be in his presence was a blessing. His heart was all life. Marshall knew how to thanks anyone who gave anything to his beloved creation, CCL. If there’s any lesson I take from knowing him is that love is the greatest power. Given that Marshall was the most powerful person I ever met. When someone dies we Jews say, “May his memory be for a blessing.” No one merits that saying more than dear Marshall.

Lincoln, Nebraska CCL wants to express our condolences to Marshall's dear family. My brief glimpse of your closeness was at the Tuesday 2016 evening get together after lobbying. You were all sitting around Marshall. It felt like you held each other in a loving embrace!
We are the peaceful cavalry, we will prevail. Thank you Marshall.
