This is not really one of my best efforts, right? But the Charleston Post and Courier was willing to ink it. Never assume that a newspaper is going to refuse you just because you are writing from out of state. You might be surprised!

Dear Editor-
My response to your article on clean energy profitability ("Forget Saving the Planet") is very mixed. Yes, solar and wind bring both money and jobs to our communities. If wind turbines were not profitable, clearly the state of Iowa would not be getting 60% of its electricity from them. But the other half of the messaging advice in the article- let's stop talking about climate change since nobody cares and it can't harm us- doesn't really work for me. That's because it is factually untrue. Climate change has always been about our children's futures. With the insurance industry reeling from last year's hurricanes and the recent Los Angeles Fires, we don't even need to wait 30 years to see the consequences of climate change. Fossil fuels have costs that go beyond what we pay at the pump.
A majority of us are actually concerned about climate change, and a majority of us love our children. Sure. some of us forget about those things when we enter a voting booth. If we continue to have those odd memory lapses, then our children will blame us when they end up with tough lives.
So sure, I am happy for clean energy jobs and income, but I can't accept that money is all that matters. Life is about love and caring, not just cash.
Congratulations on your first SC Letter to the Editor. Thanks for sharing!
@Chris Wiegard
Good LTE, Chris! I'm glad you pushed back on the nonsense expressed in the earlier letter.
