Position Summary:


 

The Program Manager is a key member of the program staff, reporting to the Community Engagement and Program Director. The Program Manager will play a key role in growing our Faith Climate Action Week (FCAW) work into year-round programming to educate and inspire faith leaders to preach and teach about climate change. 


 

Faith Climate Action Week  (FCAW) is IPL’s annual premier week of climate action. IPL invites faith leaders across the nation to preach and teach about the moral call to care for the Earth to inspire people of faith and conscience to take action on climate. IPL plans to offer year-round theological education and resources for faithful climate action starting in 2024 under an expanded program that will include FCAW.


 

The ideal candidate is a nonprofit program professional who is committed to equitable solutions to the climate crisis, enjoys getting to know people of different faith traditions, is service-oriented, takes initiative, maintains high standards and confidentiality in all their work, can manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and has a flexible work style.

Interfaith Power & Light’s main office is in Washington, D.C. This is an on-site, hybrid, or remote position. 


 

Responsibilities:


 

Faith Climate Action Week

Plan, prepare, and conduct, and grow Coordinate  IPL’s annual premier week to preach, teach, and act to heal the climate, engaging 2,000 congregations in the week’s activities, and achieving 1000 sermons or talks. This includes but is not limited to the following:

Collaborate with IPL’s National Program Advisory Council to ensure themes and materials align with IPL’s JEDI principles

Work with IPL’s policy team to integrate policy advocacy into Faith Climate Action Week

Manage the featured film for the week: Achieve 400 congregational screenings, with 10k viewers. Manage production and sales of DVDs

Produce a webinar with the filmmaker

Write, produce, sell, and ship all FCAW materials

Manage the Spanish translation of all materials, web pages, and communications

Conduct all promotions and  create opportunities for earned media for the week

Manage and promote the FCAW calendar of public events

Track all engagement data, produce reports


 

Conduct year-round education and worship programming

Provide theological education and inspiration to empower people of faith and conscience to take climate action via webinars, blogs, and social media throughout the year

Partner to offer online and in-person educational opportunities to IPL congregations

Promote Earth care worship throughout the year

Update worship resources on the IPL website

Collect new sermons from diverse faith traditions to post on the IPL website (Work with seminaries to collect new video sermons, and/or conduct a sermon contest, accepting entries in English and Spanish)

Collaborate with partnering religious organizations to offer online interfaith Earth care worship services or prayer vigils


 

Build Partnerships

Expand partnerships with faith-based, climate justice, and issue-based organizations in keeping with IPL’s mission to expand IPL program reach, discover partner resources, and partner in creating new resources and connections to serve IPL congregations

Maintain relationships with IPL affiliate leaders to support their participation in programming and collaborate when possible

Partner with organizations to reach Spanish-speaking congregations 


 

Communications

Conduct communications for this work in collaboration with communications team via email newsletters, social media, etc. 

Maintain FCAW website


 

Work will, at times, be scheduled in the evenings and/or weekends and will need to allow for working across multiple time zones. This position requires creativity and flexibility due to the fast-paced nature of the work.


 

Experience and Qualifications:


 

3-5  years of experience in managing educational programs in a nonprofit setting

College degree or equivalent experience

Ability to develop partnerships with faith-based, climate justice, and issue-based organizations in keeping with IPL’s mission

Commitment to centering diversity, equity, and inclusion in program planning, 

Sensitivity to people from all walks of life and diverse religious backgrounds 

Experience working as a member of a team 

Demonstrated success at innovating in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment 

Strong communication skills, oral and written

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to short-term deadlines, balance multiple responsibilities, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to act collaboratively and flexibly as a member of a remote staff team

Commitment to the mission of IPL and IPL’s JEDI statement

Professionalism and discretion


 

Additional Desired Skills:


 

Experience working with an environmental organization or with a church, synagogue, or other house or worship or religious organization

Theological training

An understanding of interfaith-ness and the climate movement

Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM

Familiarity with technologies such as Google Suite, Slack, Asana, Zoom, WordPress, Canva, etc.

Spanish-speaker a plus


 

Salary and Benefits:


 

The salary range for this position is $51,000 - $64,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Full medical, dental, and vision health benefits for the employee, retirement account Simple IRA with up to 3% match, generous vacation, sick and personal leave, half day Fridays throughout the year.
