I understand the PROVE IT Act instructs the Dept. of Energy and supporting agencies to work with other countries, if possible, when calculating GHG emissions intensity for those countries. Â How will we manage to collect GHG emissions intensity data for a country like China, which has a notoriously closed society and government? Â Won't China (and other countries) be able to justifiably question the accuracy of data we produce for their country?
China provides its greenhouse gas emissions data, @Jim Greuel. It's how we evaluate their progress toward their Paris commitments, for example. You can question its trustworthiness, but I'm sure they'd say the same about ours. Ultimately it's just data relative to how much fossil fuels each industry is consuming.
@Dana Nuccitelli I'm not quite sure I understand. What does the Prove it act do, in addition to what you're saying, where China is concerned?Â
Â
PROVE IT tasks the Department of Energy with calculating the carbon intensity of a variety of American industries and foreign competitors (including China), @D C.
