Discussion on multiple bills being held up in multiple Committees
How to have discussions about congressional partisanship without using the "R" word, when discussing Conservative Congressional stymieing tactics, resulting in multiple bills being stalled in multiple committees?Â
@Dan Barenholtz  nonpartisan means that generally push legislation with at least 1 GOP sponsor. But obviously there are exceptions. the IRA for one. The EICDA for another- we tried like hell to find a GOP sponsor but we failed because there are none.Â
Pointing to GOP intransigence however gets no GOP support for us. It is also true that there is such a thing as Progressive intransigence. There are progressives who refuse to consider carbon pricing so long as the dividend is paid out. They want the $ from the carbon fees to be spent on various environmental needs- which then cripples the bill politically, because most voters are not going to say goodbye to their $ that way.Â
This is an election year. It is very possible to pursue election work in a nonpartisan way, oddly, such as Environmental Voter Project. EVP phonebanking never mentions who to vote for. Because the algorithm has identified a person who may value the environment but not be a steady voter. No need to talk politics to that person, they already know which party talks about climate solutions.Â
