🌎Hey, Planet Protectors!🌏
I wanted to share with you all a (semi)recently made YouTube channel called CCL Resilience. This channel posts short and intriguing climate videos that mirror topics from our CCL monthly podcast: Climate Change Podcast 📻 | Citizens' Climate Radio. Posted most recently was a video called Powerful Possibilities of Joy and Climate, which is what I wanted to discuss with you all today.
As talked about in the video, joy and climate do not sound like two concepts that can easily be paired. It initially seemed difficult to me because the two seem so opposites, and it’s hard to imagine associating joy with something that warrants worry to the extent that climate change does. However, it was pointed out that joy is not a choice, and this is something that has stuck with me after taking some time to process what that means. I’ve always thought of joy as more of a reward system my brain gives in response to a type of achievement. Instead, thinking of joy as something that can be felt regardless of the circumstance means it is possible to be felt in situations that warrant worry, stress, and even anxiety, like climate change. I personally use music as my source of joy; my headphones are constantly on. I listen to music when I go outside, when I am doing work, when I am cleaning my room…
It is hard to not experience joy in the face of climate change when Bill Withers is singing that today is going to be a lovely day.
I am curious how you view joy in the face of climate change. I personally am young in the game and am curious how many of you experience joy when fighting climate change? Alex Marianyi, a CCL group leader recently made a post about how he created a strong and resilient chapter, that I’d like to close with. He believes joy is essential because it is delightfully contagious. Focusing on what Alex enjoys inspires comfort in others to express what brings joy to them, and this grants us the ability to be in the right headspace to combat climate change.
Let me know what you all think and if anything comes to your mind when I mention climate and joy. I wish you all well and hope to hear back from you soon!

@Simon Stratton thanks for your efforts, and I'll tune in to the episode soon. I expect I'll have listened by the next time I log on, so I'll let you know what I liked about it then. Cheers,
-KB
