Though I couldn't attend the conference in person this year, I enjoyed following it through social media posts from ccl.highered, nolan.rickett_, ccldfw, ccl_inclusion, and many others. It was inspiring to see so many faces discussing climate issues. Thank you all for sharing!
As the resilience and education intern, I focus on finding and implementing resiliency practices in CCL. This summer, my job was easy; resilience was a key theme throughout the conference, embedded in many of the discussions (including, among others, Health and Climate and Motivational Interviewing). Resilience is about developing strategies to avoid burnout and stay on course through highs and lows. Every talk I watched covered this concept in some way, whether through the humor exchanged between speakers and the audience, calls to stay hopeful, or the hard work presented after a year of labor, all exemplifying staying strong through the ups and downs.
I saw resilience exhibited most profoundly in the "From Comfort Zones to Connections" discussion. Drew Eyerly and Karina Ramirez discussed how their different backgrounds and political views have enriched their communication, friendship, and work relationship. Their efforts to bridge partisan divides exemplify resilience, demonstrating how differences can strengthen a shared mission. Their challenges and ups and downs taught them how to reinforce each other while simultaneously building their personal skills.
Drew and Karina's conversation showed real efforts to unite seemingly divisive groups, maintaining a positive dynamic and working for change together. Their example beautifully depicts CCL's mission of a better future. Thank you, Drew and Karina!
@Amber Powell I’m so glad you enjoyed the conference even if it was virtually. I look forward to connecting with you in the future.Â
