Rewiring America has a nice page on their website summarizing how individuals can engage in a campaign to electrify and decarbonize their local schools. This 4-page PDF summarizes the process nicely, including this flow chart:

On Page 2 of that PDF they link to a really nice template created by Carbon Neutral Schools that allows anyone create a resolution for a local school board to establish goals for energy efficiency, clean energy, and carbon neutrality. And the New Buildings Institute also has a guide to help school building decision-makers decarbonize.
I think that school electrification and efficiency can be a fruitful way to engage in this policy area. The less fossil fuels that are burned around kids, the better. And these measures can reduce energy bills for schools while curbing their contribution to global warming at the same time. It's a win-win proposition and good PR to boot! And here we've got some nice resources to help people engage in this pursuit.
@Dana Nuccitelli we're definitely thinking of making a schools subteam in our chapter to try to get a number of local school districts on this pathway. I feel like this is one of those areas that if you could get half a dozen in a region, it would act as dominoes for others.
That's awesome, @Sean Dague! I agree, I'd love to see a few success stories snowballing into a big school electrification and decarbonization movement 😁
