Sunday Seminars (online only)

CCL’s core values say, in part, “We are prepared and do our research. We consult experts and use data. We are open to new information.” The day after our June 13th Conference, our volunteers will have an extra chance to put this value into action by attending one of the four Sunday Seminars on June 14th.

Sign-ups are being handled through the CCL June Conference Registration page.

Each of these additional virtual seminars lasts 1.5 - 2.5 hours, taking our volunteers deeper into the material than a standard conference breakout. When you register for the conference, you can choose to attend this additional session if you wish to. Space is limited in each workshop.

Attendees can choose one of four topics:

1. Depolarizing Within presented by Braver Angels (2.5 hours) (limited to 800 people)

A surprising aspect of today’s epidemic of toxic polarization between climate advocates and climate skeptics is that much is driven by how we talk with like-minded people about those on the other side.  Too often we stereotype, dismiss, or ridicule our fellow citizens who differ from us in their perspectives on climate change.  How we talk among ourselves about them fuels fires that threaten the progress of climate solutions. This workshop will help you become more aware of your inner polarizer, help you learn to depolarize yourself and teach you skills for intervening  in social conversations with like-minded people when those conversations veer into contempt and ridicule for people who hold other views.

2. International Climate Policy Workshop (2 hours) (limited to 150 people)

Wondering what climate policies other countries are implementing and what that means for the global society? Join us to learn what Mexico, the UK, Canada, and Small Island Developing States are doing, then gear up for a mini climate policy negotiation with the United States and the UN. Leading the discussions will be CCL international regional coordinators and chapter leaders.

3. Beyond Diversity: Fostering Belonging and Inclusion at CCL (1.5 hours)

CCL welcomes everyone concerned about climate change to join us, regardless of their race, ethnicity, age, gender, or political affiliation, etc. But how do we create a culture that celebrates diversity and fosters a sense of belonging, while focusing on our mission to advance the best climate policies? This session will lead participants in understanding the benefits and challenges of diversity for the climate movement, recognize privileges and forms of racism, and introduce resources for chapters to be more effective in engaging people from underrepresented backgrounds.
