“There is no alternative to persevering,” author Rebecca Solnit writes. “You can keep walking whether it’s sunny or raining.”

2116f88f81f949f1003306c828e13f54-huge-snThat’s what CCLers did on Saturday at our November monthly meeting, just days after the election. More than 600 volunteers joined live to take action together, making it clear to the current administration, Congress, and our communities that climate change is a critical issue.

In less than an hour, we sent more than 2,500 messages to President Biden and to current members of Congress, asking them to prioritize climate action while they are still in office. Plus, volunteers on the call reached out to friends to get them involved, posted on social media, and made plans to attend CCL’s Fall Virtual Conference coming up in a few weeks.

We also heard from Rachel Kerestes, CCL’s Executive Director, who shared insights about what a second term of President Trump may bring and may require from climate advocates.

“There’s going to be a lot that happens very quickly. There was a lot of chaos last time,” she reminded us. “The key to success is to not get distracted. The key to victory is discipline and focus.”

Hear Rachel’s full message and take the actions yourself by watching the recording of Saturday’s call.

If you have a little time: Share this stat on social media. 80% of Americans say major donors have too much influence over the decision their elected officials make. Call us old fashioned, but we think Congress should listen to YOU! Share this post on Instagram or Facebook to remind your friends and followers that their voices have influence too.

If you have more time: Plan to attend CCL’s Fall Virtual Conference. Registrations to this free online conference are now over 1,000! Don't be left out. This event takes place Dec. 6-7 and will prepare you to advance climate progress in the new legislative landscape we’re facing. Register today.

High school student and Reno native Riley Sherman has seen the effects of climate change up close. Living in the fastest-warming city in the U.S., he’s experienced long stretches of wildfires and has had to spend summer days inside because of skies filled with smoke.

Now, Riley is taking action. He’s launched the Mountain West Youth Team to inspire young people across seven states to get involved and help tackle the climate crisis. Alongside Riley, the new youth team is run by advocates Lisa Wang and Jia Mahesh from Nevada, Gracie Caldwell from Montana, and Arianne Terrones from Arizona.

Already, these leaders have inspired students to take new sustainable initiatives such as healthy forests advocacy, local resolution work, letter writing, and more. Next, the group has their sights set on creating and running a Climate Future Virtual Forum, planned for Monday, January 13, 2025. They are bringing in organizations and local leaders across the states to show students different ways to pursue climate legislation, offering local, state, and national opportunities.

Way to go, Riley and the Mountain West youth!
