CCL’s Lorain County chapter has gotten some great local media attention for their volunteers’ recent trip to D.C. for CCL’s Summer Conference and Lobby Day! A reporter at the Chronicle-Telegram covered Lobby Day from several angles over the last few weeks.

Coverage began with a story on July 16, making clear that CCLers were headed to D.C. to “push for the support of cleaner, more renewable energy solutions in the face of climate change.” The piece quoted Ted Wolner, a co-leader of the chapter, and Ray English, who serves as CCL’s liaison to Sen. John Husted (R-OH).

A July 31 story followed up on Lobby Day, reporting that “32 Ohioans traveled last week to meet with members of Congress and their staffs.” Ted and Ray were both quoted again, with Ray sharing that the offices “listened very carefully to our concerns.”

The final piece was published on Monday, this time focusing on some recent steps toward bipartisan permitting reform coming out of Congress, which was among CCL’s lobbying asks. The piece refers to the local Ohioans' recent lobbying, noting CCL’s commitment to bipartisan work and our “attitude that we can find common ground.”

How did the Lorain County chapter help generate this flurry of media coverage? It’s a relationship success story!

Ray says, “I’m on the Oberlin City Council, and [this reporter] covers all of our meetings, so I have a relationship with him from that.” When Ray’s chapter sent out the press release about Lobby Day, he says, “I asked that it be sent to this reporter.”
