For meetings, events and communications
Everything we do at Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) and Citizens’ Climate Education (CCE) is rooted in relationships. To ensure our meetings, events, and activities reflect the respect, inclusion, and collaboration that make our work effective, we ask all volunteers to uphold these standards across every CCL and CCE gathering, channel, and communication, regardless of format or location.
Remain respectful in how we speak and act
We treat one another with respect in every interaction, whether online or in person.
Lead with curiosity, not judgment
We strive to listen openly and assume good intent.
Foster open dialogue
We invite different perspectives, aiming for inclusive participation.
Work well across differences
We work constructively with people who bring different experiences and viewpoints, and we stay mindful of how our words and actions land.
Look out for one another
If we notice a safety concern or someone who may need support, we alert a volunteer leader or staff member.
Follow the rules of the venue or platform
We respect and follow the guidelines of any place or online platform where CCL activities take place.
Practice accountability
When we fall short of these agreements, we work together to name concerns, learn from them, and adjust our behavior, policies, or practices.
Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policy
We do not allow behavior that threatens the safety, dignity, or ability of others to participate.
Examples include conduct that is threatening, harassing, abusive, insulting, or demeaning, whether in person or online.
Harassment of any kind is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Insults, slurs, or hostile remarks about a person’s background, beliefs, or personal characteristics
- Intimidation, bullying, stalking, or repeatedly targeting someone after being asked to stop
- Disrupting meetings, sessions, or events in ways that prevent others from participating
- Unwanted physical contact or invasion of personal space
- Unwelcome sexual comments, attention, or advances
- Taking photos, recordings, or screenshots of people without permission in situations where privacy is expected
This standard applies to interactions involving people of all backgrounds and viewpoints. We expect disagreement to be expressed respectfully and without personal attacks.
How to report concerns
If you experience unacceptable behavior, witness it happening to someone else, or have a related concern, please report it as soon as possible. You may contact:
- Brett Cease, VP of Field Operations, at brett.cease@citizensclimatelobby.org
- Karina Ramirez, VP of People & Culture, at karina.ramirez@citizensclimatelobby.org
- Or submit an anonymous report
All reports are handled confidentially and will receive an initial acknowledgement within 48 hours.
Accountability
We take these standards seriously. Anyone who does not follow them may be asked to leave a meeting or event right away, whether it’s online or in person. Depending on the situation, they may also be restricted from future CCL/CCE meetings, events, or activities. In some cases, additional steps may be taken, consistent with our CCL/CCE Volunteer Non-Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policy.
