CCL’s Meteorologist Outreach Action Team has recognized more than a dozen meteorologists with a “Climate Coverage Champion Award” nationwide — now, the Charlotte area is lucky to claim two of those champions as their own!

The latest recipient is Brandon Lawson, a meteorologist for the local Queen City News, pictured above with CCLers Mark Taylor and Chelsea Matson. Mark is a member of the Meteorologist Outreach Action Team.

“Meteorologists are the trusted scientists from which your average citizen receives weather and sometimes climate knowledge. Promoting this award encourages other meteorologists and TV stations to expand their climate education, thereby normalizing climate change discussion,” explains Mark, who identified Brandon as a worthy recipient for the award.

“Brandon’s impactful work across television, social media, streaming platforms and public events is notable, particularly his segments on Pinpoint Weather University for Queen City News+,” CCL Charlotte said in a press release promoting the award.

Queen City News published an article that celebrated the award and highlighted CCL’s direct advocacy with Congress. “In addition to raising awareness, the Charlotte chapter of CCL regularly meets with Representatives Alma Adams, Moore, and Harris, as well as North Carolina’s U.S. senators, urging support for meaningful climate solutions,” the station reported.

“Here in North Carolina, we’re feeling the impact of climate change,” said Lynn Dransoff, leader of CCL Charlotte. “Along with professionals like Brandon, we work to educate members of our community and show our members of Congress that we need effective environmental and clean energy policies.”

Great work to the Meteorologist Outreach Action Team and CCL Charlotte!
