Members of Congress are back from their August recess, and as we head toward fall, another season of climate advocacy is ahead of us. It’s the perfect time to connect with other climate advocates and get inspired for the work ahead. How? At our 2025 Inclusion Conference coming up Sept. 26-27!

This year’s Inclusion Conference, titled “Rooted in Care, Growing in Community,” is a free, virtual event focused on powerful storytelling and practical tools to help you approach your climate work from a place of hope, curiosity, and justice.

Here’s a peek at a few of the program sessions:

🌱 “Climate Change and the Apocalypse: Rethinking the End of the World” — Julian Cauzae will explore how alternatives to traditional Western narratives can move us from anxiety and hopelessness to renewal and action.

📊 “Cultural Competency: The New Currency of the Next Century Leader” — Ukeme Awakessien Jeter will discuss cultural curiosity as a crucial leadership asset that can drive innovation, enhance an organization’s effectiveness, and strengthen teams.

✨ “No Climate Justice Without Inclusion” — Pamela Benson Owens will lay out why inclusion is essential for meaningful organizational culture, community engagement, and climate action.

The conference is organized by CCL’s Affinity Action Teams and CCL’s Vice President of People and Culture Karina Ramirez, and is open to all CCL volunteers and climate-concerned attendees. Check out the full program and plan to join us!

Take action this week

If you have a little time: Share info about climate-friendly home upgrades. Our friends at Rewiring America are encouraging homeowners to take advantage of clean energy tax credits before they expire later this year. Share this Instagram post to help people get the information and support they need to electrify their homes, cut climate pollution, and save money along the way.

If you have more time: Write a letter to the editor about a timely climate topic. Local media makes a big impact on elected officials. One easy local media opportunity is to write a letter to the editor (LTE) of your local newspaper. Charlotte Ward, CCL’s Communications & Media Manager, hosts a monthly LTE workshop to guide and support you. The workshop includes a quick training on how to write an LTE, time to write your letter, and a chance to share and discuss at the end. Attend this month’s workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT or go ahead and get started on your own LTE based on these topic ideas.

Upcoming trainings

9/13: CCL September Monthly Meeting - Each month, CCL hosts a virtual meeting for our chapters and volunteers nationwide. Our meeting for September takes place next Saturday at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT and features climate scientist Dr. Daniel Swain as our guest speaker, discussing wildfires and climate change. See you there!

9/18: Carbon Pricing Around the World - The U.S. remains the only developed economy without a national carbon price — but carbon pricing has worked successfully across the world, and those lessons apply to the evolving U.S. conversation. Tune in with Dr. Danny Richter for a global tour of carbon pricing and a look at where U.S. policy may be headed next. Join us!

9/25: Bringing Policy Support from Trusted Messengers to Congress - This training explains how to identify and engage community leaders who are especially influential on their members of Congress. These leaders are called trusted messengers. This training also explains how to work with a trusted messenger to customize CCL’s editable template policy support letter and the best way to deliver the completed and signed letter to Congress.
