Dear CCLers,
We are heartbroken over the news of the rising death toll from the Texas floods, including at least 30 children, and the ongoing searches for people still missing.
A rapid attribution report from ClimaMeter found that “meteorological conditions similar to that causing floods in Texas are up to 7% wetter in the present than they have been in the past,” and that “natural variability alone cannot explain the increase in precipitation associated with Texas floods," making it clear this is a climate disaster.
Here’s a place for us to connect and support each other as a community.
For any CCLers who are in the affected areas and want to share how this is impacting them or their community, please feel free to update us in the comments below.
For those of us not in the immediate area who want to send their love to everyone affected, please post your messages of support and encouragement here.
@Flannery Winchester To all affected by the Texas floods, know that many of us here in Ohio--in CCL and outside it--send our love and best wishes. Your experiences motivate us to work harder to avoid this kind of suffering.
@Flannery Winchester Members of the NE TN CCL Chapter have so much empathy for all affected by the Guadalupe River flooding in Texas, having experienced similar catastrophic devastation in our region in September 2024 when the Nolichucky River and others flooded during the Hurricane Helene event. We, too, are grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support for victims by everyday Americans, near and far.
