To help ground our chapter and volunteers in the diversity of our membership each month, we start our meetings with reading the following statement out loud.
What approaches does your chapter have to create a tone-set that welcomes volunteers of all persuasions while clarifying what our focus is as an organization?
“We always assume that we have people here with different life experiences. If you are a conservative, you’re welcome. If you are a progressive, you’re welcome. Whatever your political affiliation, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability, or background, we welcome everyone who wants to work towards Congress enacting major climate legislation. As a result, for the purpose of our meeting a reminder that we'll keep our comments and work focused on building this common ground.”
@Brett Cease This is a great statement and reminder. I think we'll start using this in our chapter as well. Thanks!
