Prove It Act introduction in the House?

Has there been any update on when the House version of the Prove It Act will be introduced?  At the June 2024 Summer conference and lobby day we were told it is imminent.    My MOC has reached out to me asking about it and whether there is a bill number assigned!

Is it still expected to be introduced by Reps Curtis and Peters?

I am totally confused. Is this the PROVE IT Act we were lobbying our House representatives about on June 11? I thought it had not been introduced in the House yet, but this shows something w the same name was introduced in Feb of 2024.

Thanks @Anna Koster @John Skoug

John - yes, we hope that the House equivalent as you outline will be introduced soon! The lead sponsors  still plan to be Reps. Curtis and Peters and as soon as there is a bill number from Congress.gov you can rest assured that we'll alert the CCL network!

Anna-  Great question and here's a helpful explanation from Elli Sparks: There are two Prove It Acts.

Here's the difference:

H.R. 7198 is related to small businesses. It is called the Prove It Act of 2024.  It has a Senate bill: S. 1411, called the Prove It Act of 2023.  Notice that this one isn't all capitalized.

Our PROVE IT Act is all capitalized. It is all capitalized because it stands for  Providing Reliable,  Objective, Verifiable Emissions Intensity and Transparency Act of 2024 or the PROVE IT Act of 2024.  The Senate bill is S.1863. And, right now, we don't have a House "companion" bill.

Summary:

  • PROVE IT Act - S 1863 - no House companion bill yet - government creates a list of products and their carbon emissions intensity - this IS our focus
  • Prove It Act - S 1411 - HR 7198 - small businesses - NOT a focus of ours - don't lobby on this.

Good question. I think when a House Bill is introduced it presents an excellent opportunity to follow up with House staff or MOC and keep the conversation going.

Hi all - the bill just dropped in the House! It's H.R. 8957, led by Rep. John Curtis (R-UT-03) and a bipartisan list of 20 cosponsors, which you can see listed on Congress.gov.
