Effective Communication with Congress
We've often been told about the effectiveness of various means of communication (phone calls good, petitions bad, original emails good, form letters bad). But what I haven't heard is whether all that matters is to have a non-generic call/email that will be counted by an intern, or whether having a particularly insightful or poignant message can make a real difference. If so, how does that happen? Do the aides select a few messages each day to pass along to the MOC?
@Steve Glaser Each office is different so some things will have more or less effect. My answer is yes to both because volume can have one effect and a great message can have another. One of my lobby meetings this week indicated that staff share with each other items of interest that they come across daily. I think a memorable message that is poignant or funny could be one of those shared around the room.
@Lisa Ruckman also, offices change their stance sometimes.
One of our MOCs once asked us not to flood them with calls right before Lobby Day as CCL recommends, “We get it. We like you guys, so don't bug us.” so we honored their request and told volunteers to hold off. More recently (during the current administration) when we mentioned that to an aide in the same office, the reply was “No, no, the member really needs to be hearing from people on that topic.” If you can build a good relationship with an office, sometimes they might clue you in in this regard; but it's not like you can bluntly ask “So, what's the best way for our army of citizen volunteers to make your office do what we want?” It occurs to me that CCL does recommend trying to find out which voices in the community are particularly influential.

I have been doing cursive for decades as it is the nuclear option. It transcends technology.
