My turn. This is printed tomorrow morning- Letters for April 28: Administration not taking right steps on climate – The Virginian-Pilot.
I worked with another local volunteer and got her to put her spin on it without reading my draft, so that it would be fresh for the editors. We'll see if that one flies.
and here is the text in case you get paywalled-
Climate
Re “Earth Day” (Our Views, April 20): I value the editorial board’s consistent approach to the topic of climate change, which I would characterize as “real problems need real solutions.” These real solutions include carbon emission reduction, adaptation, sequestration and restoration.
It was bad enough when Gov. Glenn Youngkin turned his back on coastal Virginia by pretending to have the right to take Virginia out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative — thereby eliminating many millions of dollars of flood control funding.
Now the president is turning his back on coastal Virginia on a much bigger scale, by eliminating funding for climate science, but also for flood control. Then he abruptly halted all permits for future offshore wind projects, thereby putting a squeeze on this industry that promised so much investment in Hampton Roads.
This approach of “climate change might be a problem, but one that we can’t afford to fix” is in stark contrast to the constructive approach demonstrated by The Virginian-Pilot & Daily Press Editorial Board. People are dying today from climate change, and this effort to turn away from every solution promises a troubled future. That future will contain higher human mortality, and will threaten Hampton Roads with weather disasters and economic upheaval. Ignoring this threat to save money is penny wise and pound foolish.
