Hi folks,
Below is the recording of last night's LTE workshop for anyone who missed it. And here is the slide deck.
We wrote LTEs about how Congress just passed a major bill that rolls back clean energy tax credits—cuts that are deeply unpopular and jeopardize the slew of investment, projects, jobs and climate progress we’ve seen in our states. It was signed into law the same day that a devastating flash flood hit Texas—119 lives have been lost so far.
Talking points:
- It's concerning to see that this bill has crossed the finish line and made it into law. Clean energy is more efficient, stabilizes the grid and lowers consumer costs. It also helps to lower climate pollution—fossil fuels do the opposite. Add in the detrimental impacts that your state will see from losing clean energy tax credits.
- While we can appreciate that Republicans faced overwhelming partisan pressure to vote with the party on the budget reconciliation bill, we have every right to feel frustrated, upset or worried. Climate change doesn’t care about political affiliation. When this issue is partisan we all lose—it's time to work across the aisle.
- Include first person perspectives of the climate extremes you've experienced and how you don’t want them to get worse. Nearly two-thirds of Americans agree that global warming is affecting the weather in the U.S. (64%), and seven in ten of us see the correlation with extreme heat (75%), wildfires (72%), droughts (72%), and flooding (71%). Add in climate opinion data from your state, district, county or metro area using the Yale Climate Opinion Maps.
