Educate your community by writing a letter-to-the-editor (LTE) on the topic of building electrification and efficiency which is one of the policies in CCL's policy agenda.
To have the best chance of being published, respond in your letter to something climate, pollution or extreme-weather related in the news. When you see coverage, you could write that we must reduce the 30% of US emissions that come from buildings. You can also include the names of your members of Congress in your letter and ask them to support and/or introduce legislation accelerates building electrification.
Here's some guildance from the CCL Community LTE Topics resource
Electrification & Efficiency: By upgrading American homes and buildings to electric, we will save money and eliminate a significant source of carbon pollution. CCL will advocate for equitable building electrification and efficiency policies locally and in Congress. Buildings currently represent over 30% of US emissions. The best way to reduce these emissions is to switch to clean energy. And there are bonuses — improved air quality and money saved on household bills. Be sure to encourage readers of your LTE to check out Rewiring America’s calculator to find out which rebates and tax credits they can utilize to make their homes more efficient.
If you need help crafting your letter, check out our training “Writing Effective Letters to the Editor”.
If you submit your letter directly to your local traditional or online newspaper, be sure to log it in the Action Tracker. You can also use our helpful LTE Tool to easily submit your letter and it will be logged for you.
