WHERE: Union College, College Park Hall, 450 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308

  • Leave empowered to become an even more effective advocate for a livable planet

WHAT:

Friday evening: Let’s visit with each other! Meet and greet wonderful CCLers from all over the region at a social gathering on Friday evening. Enjoy tasty hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and great conversation!

Saturday: The conference itself kicks off at 9 AM (sharp!) on Saturday with a brief welcome from our Regional Director, Iona Lutey, followed by an inspiring keynote talk by Sam Daley-Harris.

  • Sam Daley-Harris's work is all about empowering citizens and developing climate change solutions. His book Reclaiming Our Democracy came out in a new edition January 10. Jimmy Carter said that Sam's book “provides a road map for global involvement in planning a better future.” Read more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Daley-Harris.

FIELD TRIP - FYI as the trip is now full: As a supplement to the conference, volunteers have organized a field trip to NYISO on Friday, March 22 from 3-4 pm. NYISO stands for “New York Independent System Operator.” It is the organization responsible for reliably operating New York’s power grid. The hour-long tour will be a chance to see inside the workings of the state’s electricity grid. You’ll gain an understanding of how power distribution is balanced and transmitted around the state, as well as the challenges of incorporating new technologies into a complex infrastructure in response to climate policies. There will be time for Q&A.

  • Space limited to 30 persons.
  • Deadline to sign up: Friday, March 15, 2024.
  • Government ID required (driver’s license, etc.). If your legal residence is outside of the US, you will need to submit a copy of your passport.
  • No photography is permitted.
  • For more about NYISO, see https://www.nyiso.com/faq
  • Or check out this article: "Locked into the Grid"
  • You will receive signup info after registration.

Note that the field trip is independent of the CCL Northeast Regional Conference.

COVID awareness: As of this writing, masks will not be required (subject to change depending on circumstances). However, we encourage masking in consideration of those who are more at risk. If you are experiencing any symptoms or have recently been exposed to COVID or other diseases, please get tested, and consider staying home. We cannot guarantee a refund after March 15, depending on circumstances.
