507b9e9dfad8e6e4e36bf65a5ff674c2-huge-caIt’s officially Earth Month. How are we celebrating? By digging in to defend America’s clean energy tax credits.

You’ve heard us talk about this for a while now. As Republicans in Congress press forward on a budget reconciliation package that could make major cuts to federal spending, these tax credits could be on the chopping block. But these tax credits are responsible for a huge chunk of pollution cuts, and as a climate organization, we can’t sit by and risk their repeal.

So we’re not! We’re pulling out all the stops to protect them in every way we can — on Capitol Hill, over phone and email, and in person in communities across the country. In the last few weeks, we’ve:

  • Lobbied 47 Republican offices on Capitol Hill

  • Generated 2,754 messages to Republican offices

  • Been featured in the New York Times and The Guardian

  • Begun to gather hand-written letters and plan local drop-offs to Republican offices around the country

  • …and more!

Check out this new blog post about all our recent efforts and how you can help.

Thank you for an incredible March fundraiser! Thank you to each and every one of you who donated or shared CCL’s March fundraising campaign over the last few weeks. Not only did we exceed our original goal of $10,000 in new or increased monthly gifts — we blew past our first stretch goal of $11,000 and our second stretch goal of $12,500! Thanks to your generosity, we ended the month with a total of $12,750 in new monthly commitments. This unlocks more than $150,000 in gift match funds through May, which will help sustain CCL’s work throughout the year. Thank you again for your support! If you haven’t had a chance to give, you can join in right here.

Take action this week

If you have a little time: Firm up your Earth Day plans. April is Earth Month and a great opportunity for community outreach around climate issues. Take a few minutes now to reach out to the Group Leader of your nearest CCL chapter, find out what outreach they have planned in the next few weeks, and mark it down on your calendar to attend and help out!

If you have more time: Share or attend youth letter writing event. CCL’s National Youth Action Team is hosting an event for young people to learn about the clean energy tax credits and write letters to Congress about them. If you’re in college or younger, plan to attend the workshop this Sunday, April 6 at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT. If not, support the event by sharing the details with a young climate advocate in your life.
