Thanks to Earth Day, April is always a big month of outreach for CCLers in communities across America. This year has been no exception!

Volunteers have been out tabling about climate policy, giving presentations about climate solutions, and building more local connections through special events like tree plantings and trash pickups. Our goal is to hold 550 outreach events nationwide by the end of the month, and we’re well on our way.

Head to CCL’s Instagram story to see photos from Earth Day, and don’t forget to tag us in your own!

In other news this week:

The Pope’s climate message: As the world remembers Pope Francis after his passing this week, we’re reflecting on the legacy of his climate leadership. His 2015 encyclical on climate change, Laudato Si, opened new lanes for climate action. CCL’s Catholic Action Team used the pope’s stance to organize special events, conduct targeted outreach, and spur Catholic universities’ action on climate change. CCL’s Danny Richter observed a 2014 conference at the Vatican in advance of the encyclical, and he remarked on the unprecedented clarity of the pope’s climate message.

Plan to join us in D.C. in July. Every summer, hundreds of volunteers flock to D.C. to learn about climate solutions and lobby Congress together during CCL's Summer Conference and Lobby Day. This year's event takes place July 21-22, with a jam-packed day of conference programming preparing you for in-person meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Register now at cclusa.org/summer to secure your lobby spot and get a $50 early bird discount.
