Longtime CCLers know that typically we have a conference first, then a lobby day or lobby week. Well this fall, we're changing things up a bit! In order to make the biggest impact and support BAAJA’s passage as best we can, CCL’s Government Affairs team has moved our Fall Lobbying up to November.

CCL volunteers will meet virtually with Senate offices on November 9 and then meet virtually with House offices the week of November 16-20. Liaisons are beginning the appointment setting process now.

To ensure that our volunteer lobbyists have all the education and preparation you need heading into these earlier meetings, our lobby trainings have also moved up in timeline.

Fall 2026 Lobby Training: Primary & Secondary Asks will take place Thursday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. CCL's Government Affairs and Research staff will review the updates and context for lobbying as well as guidance for lobby teams as they plan their meetings. This is a recommended training for any CCL volunteer planning on being a part of their group's Fall 2026 Lobby Meetings.

These changes will not impact the timeline for our Fall Virtual Conference, which will still take place December 4 and 5 as planned. We will have the unique opportunity to discuss the results of our lobby meetings at this year’s conference and strategize for additional efforts.

If you have any questions on this year’s Fall Lobbying, please reach out to your chapter liaison or group leader for assistance. If you plan to lobby, we’ll see you at our Primary & Secondary Asks training Oct. 29!

In other news this week:
  • Fall Conference registration: Registration is officially open for CCL’s Virtual Fall Conference Dec. 4-5. This year, we’re meeting the moment and seizing the opportunities during the final weeks of this legislative session. We’ll hear from D.C. insiders about BAAJA, secure every climate win possible before the end of the year, and gear up to a major grassroots mobilization in early 2027. Tickets are free, but donations are graciously accepted. We hope to see you there!

  • BAAJA endorsement: The Washington Post editorial board has endorsed BAAJA. In an Oct. 8 editorial, the board praised the provisions in BAAJA and encouraged senators to vote “yes” on the bill. The WaPo board writes, “The package is enormous in scope and full of good ideas to boost every variety of energy development," calling it "necessary to power all the projects that environmentalists say they support to combat climate change, such as shifting toward electric vehicles and electrifying home heating.”

Take action this week

If you have a little time: Tell a friend about BAAJA. We’re all hands on deck to support this bipartisan permitting reform bill! Right now, we’re harnessing the power of our grassroots network. Once you’ve sent a message to your senators, send the link to your friends and family to do the same. Tell them about BAAJA, why it’s good for clean energy and how it can help lower electric bills. Help us meet our goal of 10,000 messages to Congress this month.

If you have more time: Watch CCL’s Carbon Pricing Education Series Part 2 and provide your feedback. The recording for part 2 of our webinar series can be found on CCL’s YouTube channel. If you have thoughts on this segment, you’re invited to join a feedback session with the Carbon Pricing Action Team next Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.  All who attended or listened to the recording from this session are invited to participate to provide their input and discuss what they learned.

Featured: Climate GOAT Campaign

With the midterms coming up, CCL’s National Youth Action Team (NYAT) is in the final weeks of their Climate GOAT Campaign: Be the climate GOAT, get out the climate vote.

The campaign aims to help to increase the turnout of climate-conscious individuals. The team has been hard at work, and that work will continue through Election Day.

Youth participants can earn points for actions, climb in the leaderboard, and even earn cash prizes. Points may be accumulated for actions like:
  • Organizing a voter registration drive in your school
  • Writing postcards to encourage environmental voters to vote
  • Phonebanking with the Environmental Voter Project
  • Working with your local CCL chapter to talk to candidates about climate issues
All 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats are in contest this November. CCLers ages 13-18 are invited to register today to be the climate GOAT and help the National Youth Action Team get out the climate vote!
