As of Wednesday, Oct. 21, the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act, or BAAJA (S. 5653) has officially been live in the Senate for three weeks. In that short amount of time, we’ve already held an all-supporter call, published a resource toolkit, and collectively sent almost 5,000 messages to senators voicing our support. That’s nearly halfway to our goal of 10,000!

This week, CCL’s Government Affairs and Research teams have updated the BAAJA FAQ in the toolkit. The FAQ document is now filled with more, in-depth information to help volunteers understand and address common questions and concerns about the bill. Volunteers are encouraged to review this document ahead of tomorrow’s Deep Dive BAAJA training, hosted by CCL VP of Government Affairs Jenn Tyler and Research Manager Dana Nuccitelli.

Remember, the BAAJA toolkit also includes a fact sheet, tabling handout, media guidance, and links to other trainings and external resources to help you understand and advocate for the bill. But the most important thing you can do right now is write your senators in support of BAAJA and send the link to friends and family to do the same.

We’re all hands on deck to make a major organizing push. This is the comprehensive, bipartisan permitting reform bill we’ve been asking for! Send a message now, and we’ll see you at tomorrow’s training.

In other news this week:

  • CCL is hiring: CCL is searching for a Director of Government Affairs to help build bipartisan relationships on the Hill, work with coalition partners, and more. Qualified candidates will have at least 3 years working in Congress, plus a background in federal climate, energy, or natural resources policy. This is a hybrid role, and candidates must be based in Washington, D.C. Learn more and apply here, or forward the link to someone in your network who may be interested in applying.

Take action this week

If you have a little time: Register for CCL’s Fall Virtual Conference. Registration is open for CCL’s Virtual Fall Conference Dec. 4-5. This year, we’re meeting the moment and taking action during the final weeks of this legislative session. We’ll hear from D.C. insiders about BAAJA, secure every climate win possible before the end of the year, and gear up to a major grassroots mobilization in early 2027. Tickets are free, but donations are graciously accepted. Secure your ticket and invite a friend to join us, too!

If you have more time: Write an LTE or op-ed about BAAJA. BAAJA is making headlines now, making this an ideal time to write a letter to the editor (LTE) or op-ed in support of the legislation. Getting published in local media helps show your Members of Congress that there's constituent support for BAAJA, making it easier for them to vote in support of it. BAAJA media guidance is available now in our LTE Topics document, and new, BAAJA-specific Op-Ed Templates are published on CCL Community. For full guidance and inspiration, be sure to watch last week's Fall 2026 Media Training.
