🖐Greetings Resilience Members! 🖐
Climate Change Podcast, Episode 92: “There’s Something Funny about Climate Change”.
Hi all! Linked above is CCL's monthly podcast, which aims to address varying areas within our climate change community. I’d love to share my perspective on this month’s episode and would greatly appreciate some feedback on what you guys think as well!
My favorite segment of the podcast focused on Brian Ettling, a long-time member of CCL who also happens to be a climate change comedian. As a longtime fan of many standup comics, I was thrilled to hear about one that also advocated for climate activism. After hearing his story, I think it’s awesome Brian can use laughter to engage and educate us in the world of climate activism and climate change.
Another part of the podcast featured a segment by Tamara Staton- CCL’s Education and Resilience Coordinator and Greater Pacific Northwest Regional Director. As she mentioned, a great way of staying resilient in climate work is by taking space and distancing yourself from climate work from time to time.
I personally started doing this by giving myself some space when eating meals. I often find myself typing away on a task while half of a PB&J is in my other hand, resulting in messy work from multitasking and a keyboard smudged in peanut butter. By setting all of my work down and eating my meals without some form of stimulus, I now have some space for relaxing. I’ve found that it's easier to manage my time this way, and my food tastes better now that I am putting 100% of my attention on it. (Not to mention, I now have a cleaner keyboard.)
I encourage you all to check out the podcast if you haven’t already. Let me know what you think of Brian and his climate comedy, and also comment below if there are any methods you personally do to take space. Hope to hear from you all soon! 🌞
