Weekly Briefing: 4 Senators speak up 🚨
April 16, 2025
As you know, CCL has been hard at work defending America’s clean energy tax credits. These important measures have been reducing climate pollution since their passage in 2022, but they are at risk of repeal in the Republicans’ budget reconciliation process this year. We’ve spent the last few weeks making sure Republican lawmakers understand the economic value of these tax credits and keep them in place.
Last Thursday, we got a big signal that our arguments are breaking through to Congress. Four Senate Republicans signed a letter “urging their party leadership to keep the clean energy tax credits in Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act, warning that repealing them would undermine [...] manufacturing and could cause electricity prices to skyrocket,” Politico reports.
The signatories include Sen. John Curtis (R-UT), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS). Sen. Curtis, pictured above, spoke at CCL’s Fall Conference last year. At our Conservative Lobby Day last month, right-of-center CCL volunteers met with three of these four offices in defense of these tax credits.
The Senate letter comes a month after 21 House Republicans sent a similar message to House Republican leadership. These letters show that “more and more Republican members are recognizing that clean energy tax credits are benefiting their districts — and that constituents and businesses don’t want to lose them,” says Jenn Tyler, CCL’s VP of Government Affairs.
“It’s clear that these policies are delivering real economic value in communities nationwide,” Jenn adds. That clarity is thanks, in part, to CCL volunteers who have made the case to Republican offices all across the country.
We discussed this update and other progress on CCL’s April call this past Saturday. If you weren’t able to join us, catch up on the recording now.

She passed away last month.
