This past weekend, CCL’s People of the Global Majority (PGM) Action Team came together to present their fifth annual Inclusion Conference, this year on the theme of "Solidarity in Practice: Bridging Divides Through Real Conversations."

The conference created space for CCLers to connect, learn, and practice the skills needed to build stronger relationships across differences. The weekend began with a Friday evening reception and continued Saturday with a full day of conversations and learning.

The day was packed with poetry, storytelling, and speakers. The closing keynote from Ama Agyapong, CEO and Principal Training Strategist for Inclusion Enterprises, titled “Well That Went Left: Embracing Emotional Responses to Feedback with Civility” was a major highlight, offered exclusively for attendees who joined the conference live.

Ama explained the importance of feedback and how to embrace it in order to grow as a person. “Feedback is measured by the listener’s ear and not the speaker’s mouth,” she said. “We must realize how we show up in these conversations. When someone challenges your approach, what story does your mind immediately tell you?”

Other highlights included a presentation on diversity from Sister Caroljean Willie, SC, Ph.D. and a discussion on resilience and climate impacts from The Honorable Ruth Cross Kwansing, member of Parliament for the Republic of Kiribati. And of course, every year the collaborative Inclusion Conference Spotify playlist is always a hit.

Thank you to all our speakers! And thank you to everyone who showed up ready to listen, learn, and engage in the real conversations that strengthen our movement.

Missed the conference? Recordings from most of Saturday’s sessions are available now on YouTube.

In other news this week:

  • “An accidental carbon tax”: A recent story from Yale Climate Connections Editor-in-Chief Sara Peach explores the idea that increasingly high oil prices have accidentally created a pseudo carbon price in America. We’re excited to have Sara join CCL’s October Monthly Meeting as a guest speaker, where she will share her perspectives on climate storytelling and journalism. Save the date for Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.

Take action this week

If you have a little time: Share a new video from Danny Richter. Part 2 of our Carbon Pricing Education Series will take place Thursday, Oct. 1. This second session covers affordability and distributional impacts related to carbon pricing, including research that shows how carbon price revenues can actually improve affordability. This free event is open to the public. Help us get the word out by sharing a promotional video from CCL Policy Fellow Dr. Danny Richter to your network on Facebook, Instagram, X, or Bluesky.

If you have more time: Write a letter to the editor (LTE) about wildfires. Wildfires and wildfire smoke that we've seen across much of the country this year continue to make headlines and spur conversation on social media. This is a good time to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to help channel peopleʼs concern and attention toward action and solutions — namely, the Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA). Need guidance? Check out the September Action Sheet for step-by-step instructions or post questions in the Media Relations forum on CCL Community.
