Director of Federal Advocacy for a full-time remote position (based in D.C.)

Position Announcement
Carbon Advocacy Project
Director of Federal Climate Advocacy

Washington, DC

About The Carbon Advocacy Project
The Carbon Advocacy Project (CAP) funds climate advocacy campaigns that advance federal
policy changes commensurate with the urgency of the climate crisis.
Launched in 2022, CAP funds both existing campaigns and originates campaigns where the
team sees opportunities. We are comfortable being the first and—at times only—funder in a
pivotal campaign, and we largely reserve our funding for those moments when it is make or
break, and rapid response funding might make the difference between a win or a loss.
CAP provides both c(4) or c(3) funding—whatever is most appropriate for policy success.
Successful advocacy campaigns employ a wide variety of tactics, and we have supported
everything from insider lobbying to social media influencer programs to door-to-door
canvassing to alliances of unlikely allies.
CAP anticipates funding up to $8 million in grants in 2024. This year, most of the advocacy work
will be directed at the Biden Administration, along with selected independent regulatory bodies,
and will be complemented by congressional lobbying or education. CAP’s congressional work
focuses on defeating damaging policy or budget riders that aim to promote fossil fuels.
CAP is not ideological in goals or tactics with the exception of a commitment to a rapid
decarbonization of the U.S. economy. The Carbon Advocacy Project looks forward to a future
moment when climate legislation is possible.
