I'm wondering what CCL might do to include seaforestation as part of the Healthy Forests initiative... particularly around advocacy for expanding MPA's (Marine Protection Areas) or advocacy for expanding appropriately-scaled local aquaculture operations. For example, in California, we have lost 95% of our kelp forests, which contribute in a big way to draining the sink. Would love any info or thoughts!
Hi @Shannon Scrofano. Right now we're focusing on land-based forests because they're a relatively quick and simple solution (plant more trees!) and we have a vehicle to pass related legislation via the Farm Bill.
Marine solutions could potentially be a future area that we look into, although we would need to identify some potential congressional legislation that could advance those solutions. It's also an area that some other groups like The Nature Conservancy are working on.
I'm really looking forward to learning more about how the Farm Bill can help with this!
