The American Physical Society is seeking cosponsors for the the Methane Emissions Mitigation Research and Development Act (H.R. 7651), which would:
- Build a national approach for testing and calibration of new methane monitoring technologies.
- Direct support to critical research areas essential for effective monitoring of methane emissions.
- Improve the ability of the United States to accurately estimate methane emissions nationally.
Any chance this bill would become an ASK on June 11?
Here is their take action site -
Hi @Bob James
Let's check with @Dana Nuccitelli to see if this bill is on the radar of the CCL Gov't Affairs team.
I don't think so, @Bob James. This is outside of our policy areas. It doesn't seem crucial to me either given that we've got a bunch of methane-detecting satellites going up, plus EPA oil & gas methane regulations and the methane fee from the Inflation Reduction Act. Maybe this bill is supplementary to all that, but there's a lot already happening with methane.
