CCL is disappointed that negotiations around inclusion of the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 in the final spending package of the year have broken down. Read on here:
@Dana Nuccitelli This is so sad! Sigh. It's hard to keep the faith when this happens repeatedly (last time it was Manchin who was the blockade, huh!) Ever onwards… thank you for keeping us in the loop so closely.
@Dana Nuccitelli
Thank you for all your hard work. Not your fault the Congress is more interested in fighting than solving problems. I am sure that the lobby teams did their best also but we also need to be able to harness the full power of CCL community once a bill gets close to passing. For every person in the lobby team there are probably 100 CCL in the field that if we can mobilize congress will hear the political will. CCL has existed for 15 years and there a lots of supporters that don't show up for monthly meetings or respond to the contact Congress emails but in their hearts still support us. A critical bill only comes up for a vote a few times a year and this is our chance to reach out to them. An all hands on deck moment. I think if we called a lot of the recently but no longer active members and talk them into contacting congress we can greatly increase participation. But more importantly they will be reminded that CCL is about positive action and that CCL is still pushing strong to solve the climate crisis and that they can make a difference. But setting this up takes some time to get volunteers and sorting the roster and making the calls. If CCL could give us a warning that a big bill might be coming up soon we can better rally our team. Thanks!
Our MOCs heard from CCLers loud and clear, @Keith Nordman. If there had been a bill to vote on, I'm confident that it would have passed. But unfortunately the negotiations came down to a few offices who couldn't make a deal to put in front of our MOCs for a vote. It wasn't for lack of trying or for lack of support from constituents. Sometimes Congress just can't get deals done, even when everyone wants it 😖
Hi folks - if you couldn't join our lobbying debrief call yesterday, check out the recording to hear Ben's insights on these developments:
